Ángel Cardoza returned to the Dominican Republic after seminary eager to plant a church and begin training men for ministry. Then his father was diagnosed with cancer and passed away, difficulties arose within the church, and COVID brought challenges no seminary could have prepared him for. Through it all, the Lord taught Ángel patience, dependence, and trust in His purposes.

Looking back on those years, Ángel shares what he would tell young men preparing for ministry today. Be a man of prayer. Love God and delight in His Word. Surround yourself with godly men who will shepherd and correct you. Love your wife and children. Above all, pursue faithfulness to Christ.

The conversation closes with a sobering reflection on Matthew 7 and a question every pastor and ministry leader should take seriously. In the midst of serving Christ, do we truly know Him?

Pastoral Ministry and the Sufficiency of Scripture What does faithful pastoral ministry look like in the everyday life of the local church?

Ángel Cardoza, pastor-teacher of Iglesia Cristiana de la Comunidad in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, joins Chris Burnett to discuss pastoral ministry, family, biblical counseling, and the spiritual needs facing the church in the Dominican Republic.

Ángel shares the importance of caring for his family while shepherding the church, serving alongside a plurality of elders, and helping believers see the sufficiency of Scripture in the difficulties of life. He also reflects on the influence of nominal Christianity and the need for believers to understand the gospel and live in faithful obedience to Christ.

Scripture never leaves the church without direction for practicing the faith it proclaims. In Myanmar (modern day Burma), many pastors lead congregations with limited access to theological training and biblical resources. The church in Myanmar is growing. But lasting fruit requires strong biblical roots.

Burmese pastors preach week after week. They shepherd people through real hardship. But few have received formal instruction, and many serve with little more than a Bible and whatever tools they have been able to piece together on their own.

This documentary introduces the work of the Expository Preaching and Teaching Society (EPTS) in Yangon, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges facing the church in Myanmar.
